While the moustache’s push for dominance as the facial hair trend for 2016 and beyond is in full swing, many lack the confidence to make the leap. I understand. I too was one of you and these changes take time. And even though the beard is dead, lordt, make no mistake, the beard is dead (R.I.P to the girl she used to be) that doesn’t mean you have to make the jump straight to tache, or even at all. This is 2016 and we have options… just not full bearded bore with a tattoo sleeve options; four options to be exact.
Short around the sides and long on the front. Simple. The closest thing on this list to the Viking beards that have plagued our streets for too long, is the far more stylish, and easy to transition to, short-long beard (I’m sure there’s a better name for it but I’m fresh out of wordplay). If you’re looking to achieve this style, then hopefully you have the ability of extensive facial hair growth otherwise pass as no one likes patchy facial hair of any kind. If you do have good growth, fantastic! This style is perfect to deceive others by concealing smaller chins, double chins and/ or helping to elongate a rounder face. If your face is tad longer than the average guy, I’d advise a shorter style to avoid looking like Him from Powerpuff Girls.
Sitting between the tired full beard and the stylish subtlety of stubble (more on Ms. Stubble later) is the short beard. The popularity and appeal of this style comes from how versatile and easy it is to care for in comparison to its bushier brethren. It’s versatility allows it to compliment most hairstyles, keeping things smart yet rugged. When shaving, slightly suck in your cheeks and shave along the edges of your cheekbones to contour your face and create the illusion of some delicious bone structure.
Getting shorter now, we come to stubble. Stubble is easy to maintain with but a simple beard trimmer, keeping your facial hair tidy whilst maintaining the ability to cause others to swoon over apparent masculinity. Like the short beard tip above, use my contouring trick. Look, girls have make-up and we have facial hair; so why not take advantage of that? You’ll find that it doesn’t dictate your hairstyle wither which is a plus for those who like to switch up their aesthetics. And hey, sometimes all that’s needed is that 5o’clock shadow, so why put yourself through the hassle of anything else?
Now, I’m not one of them but I’ve heard myths of those that don’t like the feel of facial hair on someone they are kissing. Shocking, I know but there are those that want things smooth to the touch. Technically this facial hair style doesn’t actually involve any facial hair but let’s not get into pedantics. This style is best suited to those with stunning bone structure without the need for the facial hair contour, those with gorgeous skin and those who can’t grow hair and have very little choice in the matter (Sorry) (I ain’t sorry). It also, quite literally, shaves years off of a man so if you’re having a dreadful summer, try it out and who knows? Potentially get I.D’d again?
