I am quite literally melting into my desk at the moment so forgive me if I don’t make it to the end of this article because lordt, is it hot in here. Summer just showed up like a dog at a disco and I for one am not enjoying it. A bit of sun? Sure. But this oppressive heat? Keep it. As I was picking out what to wear today I was challenged by the lack of shorts in my wardrobe which is a real problem during these unwanted heatwaves. Hopefully you’re a bit more prepared for this lava air than I but if not, I’ve took the time to pick out shorts from Scotch & Soda to make this heat a little easier to deal with and allow you to get your legs out for the lads.
Scotch & Soda’s S/S collection of shorts come in your usual blacks, whites and navy but like their T-shirts, it is the printed variants that have stood out for me. In particular, they have used African and Indian inspired prints to create warm and bold looks to make a statement. The use of colour in each print makes the jump to embracing colour in our wardrobes all the more tempting.
The Indian prints come in four variants and are perfect for embracing and emphasising the warmer climate. Pair them with plain T-shirts of white or use warmer tones of reds and yellows to look and feel as hot as the sun itself. Saying that, the cooling blue variant is a personal favourite but that’s likely my bias to colder colours.
The African prints come in two variants and uses bright colours and repeated shapes to draw the eye. Great to throw on for festival season and a perfect excuse to recreate the looks from Beyoncé’s Grown Woman video but with a masculine edge.
And finally, while not a print, these two toned jacquard shorts are the perfect way to embrace the S/S pastel trend. Coming in both lilac (My absolute favourite) and a contrasting lemon, both create that fresh summer feel that pastel colours effortlessly bring.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to listen to Cool For The Summer (Justice for Demetria) while I pretend to enjoy this heat. I can’t pretend. I hate it. Save me shorts. Just save me!
